Claude Duet

Anthropic · Claude Duet: Anthropic's Proactive Agent App With a Morning Brief, Its Own Cloud Computer and Approval Before It Acts

Open Claude Duet

Claude Duet is Anthropic's proactive agent app: it sends you a morning brief from your email and calendar, checks your connected apps through the day, and takes on tasks by message on its own cloud computer, asking before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. It is a waitlisted research preview for US Claude Pro and Max subscribers, aimed at professionals and small business owners.

Best for

US professionals and small business owners on Claude Pro or Max who already connect their email, calendar and business tools to Claude and want an agent that surfaces what needs them and handles admin work in the background, with approval before anything goes out

Not ideal for

Team or Enterprise customers, anyone outside the US, Microsoft 365 shops, people who want to watch or steer the agent's browser live, and users who mostly want help with personal errands rather than work

Who it's for

Professionals and small business owners in the US on Claude Pro or Max plans who juggle email, calendar and business admin across many apps

Capabilities

  • Morning brief that looks across your email and calendar, picks what most needs your attention, and can start first steps such as drafting replies for you to review
  • Checks connected accounts at set intervals through the day and messages you only when something needs you; you can tell it what you want to hear about and how often
  • Takes tasks by typed or voice message in one ongoing thread, with optional separate channels per topic that share the same memory
  • Works on its own virtual machine with its own browser in the cloud, so tasks keep running after you close the app or turn off your devices
  • Returns larger jobs as files you can review and edit, such as research briefs, financial models, slide decks and dashboards, collected in a Make tab
  • Tasks tab shows what it is working on and which tasks need your input; only you can mark a task complete
  • Carries over the memory, skills and connectors from your Claude account and can search your past Claude chats (controlled by the Search and reference chats setting)
  • Can use the more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, HubSpot, Docusign, Canva and Shopify, and its cloud browser for sites without a connector
  • Shows exactly what it is about to do and waits for approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting anything; if you cannot approve right away it finishes the rest of the task and brings the approval back later
  • Pays for approved purchases with Link by Stripe or Shop Pay, using a one-time card for each purchase so your real card number is not shared
  • Credential handling follows the Claude Managed Agents design so it never directly sees passwords or sign-in tokens; passwords are typed into a separate form on your device
  • Dedicated classifier and safety system prompt designed to reject requests to share credit card numbers and government IDs, and to let other sensitive data such as health or finances through only when you have explicitly instructed it
  • Cites which email, file or spreadsheet a number or summary came from

Limitations

  • Research preview by waitlist only, for Claude Pro and Max subscribers with a US account; invitations go out in waves and joining does not guarantee a date
  • Not available on Team or Enterprise plans yet
  • Shares your plan's five-hour session and weekly usage limits with the rest of Claude, and background work such as the morning brief and check-ins also counts, so limits can run out sooner than with chat alone
  • Checks accounts at set intervals, so something urgent can arrive between checks; Anthropic says it may misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent
  • You cannot choose the model (it runs on Claude Opus 5.5), and you cannot watch or take over its browser
  • Microsoft 365 is not available yet, and some connectors such as Slack work with limits
  • Cannot see all of your Claude projects or the files on your computer, and can read your work in Claude but not change it
  • Does not make phone calls or send text messages to other people
  • Some actions are blocked even with your approval, including trading securities, moving money between accounts and accessing someone else's account
  • Disconnecting an app stops future access, but what Duet learned from it in earlier conversations stays in memory
  • Built mainly around work; Anthropic says personal errands such as booking tickets are weaker
  • Lives in its own app, separate from the main Claude app, during the preview
  • No developer API for Claude Duet is documented

Use cases

  • Getting a morning rundown of the emails and meetings that need you, with replies already drafted for approval
  • Checking QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices and drafting reminder emails to send after you approve them
  • Preparing payroll in Gusto with hours, bonuses and reimbursements filled in for your review
  • Pulling together a brief on a company before a meeting from your inbox, calendar and the web
  • Building a daily business dashboard from tools such as your point of sale, Shopify, CRM and support inbox
  • Preparing an agreement and sending it for signature through Docusign once you approve it

Our take

Duet is Anthropic's entry into the persistent personal agent category, and its distinguishing choice is restraint. It checks in every few hours rather than constantly, leads with a morning brief, and puts an explicit approval step in front of anything that leaves your account, with credentials and card numbers kept away from the model. Building on the existing Claude account means people already using Claude connectors get a working agent with almost no setup, and the examples Anthropic leads with (invoices, payroll, contracts, storefronts) make clear it is aimed at small business owners rather than consumers' errands. The costs are access and visibility. It is a US-only waitlist on Pro and Max, background work eats into the same limits as everything else in Claude, Microsoft 365 users are left out for now, and you cannot watch its browser. Treat it as an early preview whose judgment about urgency is still being tuned.

Who should use it

US small business owners, founders and busy professionals on Claude Pro or Max whose work runs through Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack and tools like QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, HubSpot or Shopify, and who want admin follow-ups prepared for them with a final approval step.

Who should skip it

Teams that need an organization-wide agent with admin controls, people outside the US or on the Free plan, Microsoft 365 users, Pro subscribers who already hit their usage limits, and anyone who wants to supervise an agent's browser session live or call it from their own code.

Strengths

  • Comes to you with a morning brief and only messages when something needs you, instead of waiting for a prompt
  • Reuses the memory, skills and connectors already set up in your Claude account, so setup is minimal
  • Keeps working on its own cloud computer while your devices are off
  • Clear approval gate before messages, payments, signatures and deletions, plus hard blocks on securities trading and moving money between accounts
  • Purchases use one-time cards through Link or Shop Pay, and passwords are kept out of the chat
  • No extra cost on Pro and Max during the research preview

Weaknesses

  • Waitlist only, for US Pro and Max subscribers; no Team or Enterprise access yet
  • Background checks draw down the same usage limits as the rest of Claude
  • Checks at intervals, so it is not real-time monitoring, and its urgency calls are still being tuned
  • No live view or takeover of its browser, and no Microsoft 365 support yet
  • Separate app from the main Claude app during the preview

Claude Opus 5.5

Where Claude Duet excels

Running a small business's daily admin

Duet can check QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices, draft the reminders, prepare payroll in Gusto and get contracts ready in Docusign, leaving the owner to approve each item from their phone.

Starting the day with a prioritized brief

The morning brief pulls the few emails and meetings that matter from your inbox and calendar, and early testers report it flagging scheduling conflicts, such as a calendar entry on the wrong day, without being asked.

Delegating a larger deliverable from a phone

A short message is enough to start a dashboard, forecast or deck that Duet builds in the background on its cloud computer and returns as an editable file in the Make tab.

Claude Duet vs. competitors

Claude Duet vs. OpenAI Dots

OpenAI Dots are always-on GPT-6 Astra agents inside ChatGPT with their own cloud computer, available on Pro, Business Premium and an Enterprise beta and reachable in Slack and Microsoft Teams. Claude Duet is a separate mobile-first app on Claude Opus 5.5 for US Pro and Max subscribers, built around a morning brief, and is not yet on team plans.

Claude Duet vs. Muse

Muse is Meta's consumer agent, with a free usage-capped tier and its own cloud VM, and is built for everyday errands like shopping, forms and travel. Claude Duet requires a paid Claude plan, is aimed at work and small-business admin, and Anthropic says personal errands are not yet its strength.

Claude Duet vs. Gemini Spark

Gemini Spark is Google's always-on agent for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, built around Gmail, Calendar, Drive and other Google apps. Claude Duet reaches a broader set of business tools through the Claude Marketplace, such as QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto and Shopify, but is limited to the US during its preview.

Frequently asked questions

What is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is a proactive agent app from Anthropic. You hand it work by message, it works in the apps you have connected on its own computer in the cloud, sends you a morning brief of what needs your attention, and messages you when a task is done or needs your decision. It launched as a research preview on October 21, 2026.

How is Claude Duet different from the Claude app and Claude Cowork?

Duet uses your Claude account, including memory, skills and connectors. In Anthropic's framing, the Claude app (which is absorbing Cowork's agent capabilities in a rollout to Pro and Max) is where you open a chat and work alongside Claude, while Duet comes to you: it briefs you each morning, checks your apps through the day, takes tasks by message and reaches out when something is finished or needs approval. During the preview Duet is a separate app, and it can read your work in Claude but not change it.

Who can use Claude Duet?

It is a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers with a US account, through a waitlist. Invitations go out in waves, and access is tied to the email address you used on the waitlist. It is not available on Team or Enterprise plans yet; Anthropic says it plans to bring it there later.

How much does Claude Duet cost?

During the research preview it is included with Pro and Max at no extra cost. Pro is $17/month billed annually ($200 up front) or $20 monthly, and Max starts at $100/month. Duet uses your plan's five-hour session and weekly limits at the same rate as chat, and its background work also counts. You get one full usage limit reset when you are admitted.

Can Claude Duet act without my approval?

It reads, drafts and prepares work on its own, but it is designed to show you what it will do and wait for approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. Some actions, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts, are off-limits even with approval, and purchases through Link also need you to approve the amount in the Link app.

Which apps does Claude Duet work with?

It can use the more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, HubSpot, Docusign, Calendly, Canva and Shopify, plus Link by Stripe and Shop Pay for purchases. Microsoft 365 is not available yet, and some connectors such as Slack work with limits.

Where can I use Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is a standalone app for iOS and Android, and on a computer you can open it on the web at claude.ai.

Claude Duet vs OpenAI Dots: what is the difference?

Both are always-on agents with their own cloud computer that ask before sensitive actions. Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5, is a mobile-first app for US Pro and Max subscribers built around a morning brief and small-business admin, and is not yet on team plans. Dots run on GPT-6 Astra inside ChatGPT on Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise, and can be messaged in Slack and Microsoft Teams.

About Claude Duet

Anthropic opened Claude Duet as a research preview on October 21, 2026. It is a standalone app for iOS and Android, also available on the web at claude.ai, and it reverses the usual chat pattern: instead of waiting for you to open a conversation, it comes to you. Each morning it looks across your email and calendar, picks what most needs your attention and can start the first steps, such as drafting replies. During the day it checks your connected accounts at set intervals (every few hours, since constant checking would burn through plan limits) and messages you only when something needs you. You can also hand it tasks by typed or voice message in one ongoing thread, from scheduling a meeting to building a dashboard, a financial forecast or a slide deck, and it works on them in the background on a virtual machine with its own browser, so your phone and laptop can be off. Finished work lands in a Make tab and running work in a Tasks tab. Duet runs on your existing Claude account, so your memory, skills and connectors carry over, and it can use the more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, with Link by Stripe and Shop Pay for purchases you approve. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and you cannot pick another model. The control model is approval-based: Duet reads, drafts and prepares on its own, but shows you exactly what it will do and waits before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting anything, and some actions (trading securities, moving money between accounts) are blocked even with approval. Anthropic says its credential handling means it never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens, and a dedicated classifier is designed to reject requests to share credit card numbers and government IDs. The tradeoffs are those of an early preview: access is by waitlist for US Pro and Max subscribers only, it is not on Team or Enterprise plans, background checks count against the same usage limits as the rest of Claude, you cannot watch or take over its browser, Microsoft 365 is not supported yet, and Anthropic says it may misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent.
