Anthropic · Autonomous Agent for Everyday Work Tasks
Claude Cowork is Anthropic's general-purpose work agent: give it a goal and it autonomously completes multi-step tasks — reports, spreadsheet reconciliation, contract review — across your files and connected tools. Best for professionals on a paid Claude plan who want Claude Code-style agentic execution without the terminal.
Best for
Professionals with recurring document, spreadsheet, or research workflows who already pay for Claude and want them done autonomously
Not ideal for
Free-plan users, quick one-off questions (regular chat is cheaper on usage), or teams that need shareable agent sessions
Who it's for
Knowledge workers in marketing, finance, legal, and sales who want multi-step file and document work done by an agent they supervise

Max

Note: Cowork is a feature of paid Claude plans rather than a separately priced product. Because Cowork sessions consume usage faster than chat, plan sizing depends on how often you run agent tasks.
Claude Cowork vs. claude-code
Claude Code is a terminal-first coding agent; Cowork brings the same agentic loop to non-coding office work in a UI anyone can use.
Claude Cowork vs. manus
Manus is a standalone autonomous agent service, while Cowork is bundled into existing Claude subscriptions and works directly on your local folders through the desktop app.
Claude Cowork vs. gemini-spark
Gemini Spark runs continuously in Google's cloud around Google Workspace apps; Cowork is session-based and centers on your local files plus connectors like Microsoft 365 and Slack.
What is the difference between Claude Cowork and Claude Code?
Both use the same agentic architecture, but Claude Code is a terminal-based coding agent for software work, while Cowork wraps that architecture in the Claude apps for general office tasks like reports, spreadsheets, and document review.
How much does Claude Cowork cost?
Cowork has no separate price — it is included with paid Claude plans: Pro ($17/month billed annually, $20 monthly), Max (from $100/month), Team ($20/seat/month annually), and Enterprise (custom). It is not available on the free plan.
What platforms does Claude Cowork run on?
The Claude desktop app on macOS, Windows (x64 and arm64), Linux, and ChromeOS, plus web and mobile in beta and a Chrome side panel. Live artifacts and local MCP plugins require the desktop app.
Does Claude Cowork act without my approval?
You choose per connector: manual mode pauses for each action, auto mode approves after safety checks, and skip mode removes review. Cowork always asks before permanently deleting files.

Manus
Professionals and teams who need AI to complete defined tasks end-to-end — research reports, data extraction, scheduled automation, presentations — rather than assist with each step manually
Freemium
Heavy Google Workspace users on AI Pro or Ultra who want inbox, file, and scheduling chores delegated to a standing agent
Paid
OpenClaw (Peter Steinberger & community)
Technical users who want a private, self-hosted AI assistant they fully control, running through their own messaging apps and model key
Free
Lindy
Individual professionals and small teams who want an AI assistant that works across their actual email, calendar, and CRM without building explicit automation flows
PaidCowork applies the agentic architecture behind Claude Code to general office work. You point it at folders and connectors, describe the outcome you want, and it plans and executes the steps — opening files, using tools, and showing each action in real time — then hands back finished work for review. It runs on the desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS), on web and mobile in beta, and as a Chrome side panel session, and a task started on one surface can be continued on another. Three connector permission modes (manual, auto, skip) control how much it acts without approval, and it asks before permanently deleting files. It fits people who repeatedly do structured document and data work; it consumes usage faster than regular chat, so simple questions still belong in the normal Claude interface.
The Claude in Chrome side panel now runs Cowork sessions: conversations save to history, skills and connectors work in the browser, and tasks continue across desktop, web, and mobile. Available on Max and Team, rolling out to Pro.
Cowork moved beyond the desktop app to claude.ai and the iOS/Android apps in beta, letting tasks started on one device be monitored and finished on another.
