The Windsurf Plugin is the AI coding extension formerly known as Codeium. The company rebranded from Codeium to Windsurf, agreed to be acquired by Cognition (the makers of Devin) in July 2025, and in June 2026 the standalone Windsurf editor became Devin Desktop — but the IDE plugin kept the Windsurf name and remains a separate product for developers who stay in their existing editor. It offers fast autocomplete and in-editor chat across most popular programming languages, and integrates with VS Code, JetBrains, Vim/Neovim, Visual Studio, Jupyter, Chrome, and Eclipse through official plugins. Individuals can use it free — Cognition's Free plan includes unlimited Tab completions — with completions at line, block, and function level, plus a chat assistant that can answer questions about the codebase, explain code, and propose refactors. Team and enterprise use is folded into Cognition's Devin/Windsurf plans rather than sold as a separate plugin subscription. Important caveat: Cognition's docs now list all Windsurf plugins as in maintenance mode, and Cascade in the JetBrains plugin is being deprecated in favour of Devin over the Agent Client Protocol (ACP). It still works for free autocomplete in an existing editor, but it is no longer where Cognition is investing.
