Eddie AI · Eddie AI: Assistant Video Editor That Hands Cuts to Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut and Avid

Open Eddie AI

Eddie AI is an AI assistant video editor that imports raw footage, transcribes and logs it, and builds rough cuts from plain-language prompts, then hands the edit to Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer as a project or timeline file. It suits professional editors and post teams who want the first assembly done for them but still finish in their own NLE.

Best for

Professional video editors, producers and post-production teams who cut interview-driven, documentary, podcast or corporate video and want AI to handle logging, syncing and the first assembly before they finish in Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut or Avid

Not ideal for

Creators who want a single all-in-one editor for recording and publishing without an NLE, teams that need per-project access control inside a workspace, and anyone who needs a self-serve self-hosted or open-source tool

Who it's for

Professional video editors, producers, agencies and in-house post-production teams working in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer

Capabilities

  • Builds rough cuts from interview, podcast, multicam and b-roll footage from a plain-language prompt, then refines them by follow-up prompts
  • Transcribes and timecodes footage in more than 50 languages and logs A-roll soundbites and B-roll shots, exportable as CSV, Word or Google Docs/Sheets
  • Syncs multicam angles by audio or timecode and labels angles by face and name, so you can ask it to cut to a named speaker
  • Writes native Premiere Pro .prproj and DaVinci Resolve .drp project files with multicam intact, plus FCPXML, OTIO, EDL and legacy Premiere XML
  • Desktop app sends edits directly into Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and into Avid Media Composer 2024 and 2025 through a beta extension
  • Joins a Blackmagic Cloud Resolve project as a collaborator to write markers, selects and timelines into it, or a Premiere Production on LucidLink to deliver new Premiere projects into an Eddie folder
  • Captions, titles and motion graphics, color grading, reframing for vertical, stabilization, speed ramps and filler-word and silence removal
  • Generated music with ducking under dialogue, AI voiceover and dubbing, and stock or AI-generated b-roll
  • Agent marketplace of critic, coach and strategist agents you @mention in a project, plus custom editor agents you can build and publish
  • Timestamped review comments, share links, team workspaces with a shared credit pool, and Slack or Microsoft Teams notifications
  • REST API, CLI (@eddieai/cli) and headless SDK, plus an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients

Limitations

  • Credits are spent on imports (250 credits per hour of footage), prompt runs, generation, b-roll placement and NLE exports (100 credits each), so a long project's total cost is hard to predict, although Eddie quotes a range before larger runs
  • Timeline exports from web uploads or cloud imports point at Eddie's transcoded proxies rather than your camera originals, which can cause relink problems. Importing through the desktop app avoids this
  • The Avid Media Composer extension is in beta, needs the desktop app, and cannot import timelines or multicam clips from Avid bins
  • Generating new music, AI voiceover and AI b-roll is not available through the MCP connector and has to be done in the web app
  • Inside a workspace every member can open every project. There are no per-project permissions
  • Eddie's help center states it does not issue refunds, including for unused time or unspent credits on a cancelled plan. Credits come back automatically only when a task fails on Eddie's side
  • Proprietary and cloud-based. Private cloud or on-prem deployment is available only as a scoped enterprise engagement

Use cases

  • Turning several hours of interview footage into a first assembly, then finishing it as a native Premiere or Resolve project
  • Syncing a multicam podcast and cutting to whoever is speaking, with angles kept switchable in the NLE
  • Logging A-roll and B-roll for a documentary and exporting the logs to a spreadsheet or Word document
  • Cutting vertical social clips with word-level captions from a long-form recording
  • Having Eddie build selects and markers inside a shared Blackmagic Cloud Resolve project
  • Scripting imports, edits and MP4 exports from a backend with the CLI and REST API

Our take

Eddie is aimed at the assistant-editor work that sits before the creative edit: logging, syncing, pulling soundbites and assembling a first cut. Its strongest argument is the handoff. Native Premiere and Resolve project files with multicam intact, plus the ability to work inside a shared Blackmagic Cloud or Premiere Productions project, mean editors keep their existing finishing tools instead of adopting a new timeline. The move to non-expiring credit packs lowers the barrier to trying it, but because imports, prompts and exports all cost credits, teams should run one real project to see their typical burn before rolling it out. Editors with camera originals on local drives should use the desktop app, since web and cloud imports export against proxies.

Who should use it

Editors and post teams who cut interview-heavy, documentary, podcast or corporate content in Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut or Avid and want the logging and first assembly handled, and developers who want to script video edits through a CLI, API or MCP.

Who should skip it

Creators who want to record, edit and publish in one tool without an NLE, teams that need project-level permissions inside a shared workspace, and organizations that require a self-serve self-hosted or open-source editor.

Strengths

  • Native Premiere .prproj and Resolve .drp exports keep multicam switchable, so the NLE finish is not a rebuild
  • Can work inside a shared Blackmagic Cloud Resolve project or Premiere Production instead of only handing over a file
  • Handles logging, multicam sync and filler removal, the slow assistant-editor passes
  • One-time credit packs with no subscription, and credits from packs do not expire
  • Reachable from web, Mac and Windows desktop, iPhone, CLI, REST API and MCP clients

Weaknesses

  • Per-import, per-prompt and per-export credit costs make large projects harder to budget
  • Web and cloud imports export against proxies, which can complicate relinking to originals
  • Avid support is in beta and more limited than Premiere or Resolve
  • No per-project permissions inside a workspace

Free tier limits: New accounts start with 1,000 free credits. There is no separate free plan or trial.

Note: Credits are one meter for imports, prompts, generation and exports. Imports cost 250 credits per hour of source footage, billed in 15-minute blocks. Most prompt runs cost about 80 to 380 credits, and higher intelligence levels cost more. Placing b-roll on a cut costs 350 credits per hour of the b-roll files used. NLE timeline exports cost 100 credits each, each workspace gets 10 cloud MP4 exports a day before they cost 50 credits, and ProRes 4444 caption renders cost 300. Subtitles, transcripts and footage logs export free. Legacy subscriptions add monthly credits that expire when the plan ends, and Eddie states it does not issue refunds (failed tasks are credited back automatically).

Where Eddie AI excels

Documentary interview assembly

Eddie transcribes and logs hours of interviews, picks soundbites from a brief, and delivers a native Premiere or Resolve project so the editor starts from a structured cut.

Multicam podcast edit

Cameras are synced by audio or timecode and angles are labelled by speaker, and the multicam group survives into the native .prproj or .drp export so angles stay switchable.

Shared cloud post-production project

Eddie can be invited into a Blackmagic Cloud Resolve project to write markers, selects and timelines, or into a Premiere Production on LucidLink where it delivers new projects into its own folder without modifying existing ones.

Eddie AI vs. competitors

Eddie AI vs. Descript

Descript is a text-based editor for creators and podcasters where you edit by changing the transcript and usually finish inside Descript on a subscription. Eddie is a prompt-driven assistant editor that hands its cuts to Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut or Avid as project files and is sold as one-time credit packs.

Frequently asked questions

What does Eddie AI do?

Eddie AI is an AI assistant video editor. You import footage and describe the edit in plain language. It transcribes and logs the footage, syncs multicam angles, builds a rough cut, and can add captions, music, b-roll and color before you export to an NLE or render an MP4.

How much does Eddie AI cost?

Eddie uses one-time credit packs with no subscription: 1,000 credits for $10, 5,000 for $45, 15,000 for $120 and 50,000 for $350. New accounts start with 1,000 free credits, and purchased credits do not expire. Imports cost 250 credits per hour of footage, prompt runs typically cost about 80 to 380 credits, and an NLE export costs 100 credits. Enterprise pricing is custom.

Which editing software does Eddie AI export to?

Eddie writes native Premiere Pro .prproj and DaVinci Resolve .drp project files, FCPXML for Final Cut Pro and Resolve, OTIO, EDL for Avid, and legacy Premiere XML. The desktop app can also send edits directly into Premiere Pro, Resolve and, in beta, Avid Media Composer 2024 and 2025.

Is Eddie AI a desktop app or a web app?

Both. The full editor runs in the browser at app.heyeddie.ai and as a desktop app for Apple silicon Macs, Intel Macs and Windows. The desktop app adds local playback, uncapped local MP4 renders and the NLE integrations. There is also an iPhone app.

Can I use Eddie AI from Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. Eddie runs an MCP server that you add as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client. It can read transcripts, build and refine cuts, add captions and b-roll, and export, but generating new music, voiceover and AI b-roll stays in the web app. ChatGPT requires a paid plan with Developer Mode for custom connectors.

Eddie AI vs Descript: what is the difference?

Descript is a text-based editor where you edit media by editing its transcript and usually finish inside Descript. Eddie is an assistant editor that builds cuts from prompts and is designed to hand the edit off to Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut or Avid for finishing.

About Eddie AI

Eddie works like an assistant editor you brief in chat. You import interviews, multicam shoots, podcasts or b-roll from local files, Google Drive, Dropbox, Frame.io, iconik, LucidLink, YouTube, or an existing Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut project. Eddie transcribes and logs the footage, syncs cameras by audio or timecode, labels angles by face and name, and builds a cut from a prompt such as "cut this interview down to the three strongest answers." You refine by follow-up prompts or timestamped comments, and every version is kept. Beyond the rough cut it can add captions, titles, color grading, stock or generated b-roll, generated music with ducking, voiceover and dubbing. What sets it apart from creator-focused editors is the handoff. Eddie writes native Premiere .prproj and Resolve .drp files with multicam intact, plus FCPXML, OTIO and EDL, and the desktop app can send an edit straight into Premiere, Resolve or (in beta) Avid Media Composer through small extensions. Eddie v4, released September 8, 2026, also lets it join a Blackmagic Cloud Resolve project as a collaborator and write markers, selects and timelines into it, or join a Premiere Production on LucidLink and deliver new Premiere projects into an Eddie folder there. It can be driven from the web app, Mac and Windows desktop apps, an iPhone app, a REST API and CLI, or an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT, and a marketplace offers critic and coach agents you @mention inside a project. Pricing moved to one-time credit packs with no subscription. The tradeoffs: credits are consumed per import, prompt, generation and export, so a long project needs estimating, and per Eddie's export help, web or cloud imports export against Eddie's proxies rather than your camera originals, which the desktop app avoids.
