Otter.ai, Inc. · Otter.ai: AI Meeting Agent That Transcribes Zoom, Meet and Teams Calls, Answers Questions Across Your Meetings and Automates Follow-ups
Otter.ai is an AI meeting agent that joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls (or records bot-free from its desktop, mobile and Chrome apps), transcribes them live with speaker names, writes summaries and action items, and lets you ask questions across your whole meeting history in Otter AI Chat or from Claude and ChatGPT through its MCP server. It suits professionals, sales, recruiting and education teams that spend their day in meetings and want notes, follow-ups and CRM updates handled for them.
Best for
Professionals, sales teams, recruiters, educators and media teams who spend much of the day on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams and want every call transcribed, summarized and searchable, with follow-ups and CRM notes drafted automatically and meeting history available to Claude or ChatGPT
Not ideal for
Teams that need a meeting assistant to run invisibly or in meetings that block guests, organizations that require self-hosting or a contractual no-training default without an Enterprise agreement, heavy users who want long meetings and real-time coaching on a low self-serve budget, and teams looking for a general-purpose assistant beyond meetings
Who it's for
Meeting-heavy professionals and teams in sales, customer success, recruiting, education, media and consulting, from individuals on the free plan to enterprises
Otter's strength is coverage of the meeting itself: it captures calls on all three major video platforms or bot-free on your own device, transcribes with speaker names, and keeps a searchable history that AI Chat, and now Claude and ChatGPT through MCP, can query. That makes it a sensible default for individuals and teams who mainly want reliable notes and follow-ups. The agent story is more uneven than the marketing suggests. Voice commands launched Zoom-first, the coaching agent (Live Assist), the Sales Notetaker, the API and webhooks are Enterprise-only, and the SDR Agent is a separate sales-led product. Before committing, test the free plan on real meetings to judge transcript quality, then check whether the Pro and Business limits on minutes, conversation length and AI Chat queries fit how your team works.
Who should use it
Anyone whose work happens in meetings: consultants, managers and founders who want every call summarized and searchable; sales teams that want CRM notes and follow-up drafts after each call; recruiters running interview loops; students and educators capturing lectures; and teams already using Claude or ChatGPT who want their meeting history available there.
Who should skip it
Organizations that cannot allow a visible recording bot or guest participants and do not want to use the desktop app, teams that need self-hosting or a no-training default without an Enterprise contract, buyers who need live coaching or API access on a self-serve budget, and anyone looking for a general assistant that handles email and scheduling beyond meetings.

Available models
Back-to-back customer and internal meetings
Notetaker joins every scheduled call, including ones you miss, and AI Chat can answer what was agreed across weeks of meetings, which saves recapping at the start of the next call.
Sales call notes and follow-ups
Pro and Business sync call notes to Salesforce or HubSpot, and on Enterprise the Sales Notetaker briefs reps before calls, flags objections and competitor mentions, drafts the follow-up and adds Live Assist coaching.
Interview loops in recruiting
The Recruiting Agent summarizes each interview, drafts candidate feedback and pushes notes to Greenhouse through Zapier, so hiring managers can compare candidates without separate note-taking.
Meeting context in Claude or ChatGPT
The Otter MCP server lets an assistant search meetings and read transcripts directly, so you can draft a proposal from the last five sales calls without exporting anything.
Otter.ai vs. Lindy
Lindy is a Slack-native AI teammate that joins Zoom, Meet and Teams calls to take notes and send follow-ups as part of a wider inbox, scheduling and app-automation workflow. Otter goes deeper on the meeting itself, with live transcription, speaker identification, bot-free recording apps, a searchable meeting history and dedicated sales, recruiting and SDR agents.
Otter.ai vs. Notion AI
Notion AI includes AI Meeting Notes that transcribe and summarize meetings without a bot, inside a Notion workspace on Business and Enterprise plans. Otter is a standalone meeting platform that also joins Zoom, Meet and Teams as a notetaker, offers a free plan, and syncs notes to Notion and other tools rather than requiring teams to work in Notion.
Otter.ai vs. Gong Agents
Gong Agents run inside Gong's revenue platform and are aimed at sales, RevOps and customer success teams that record customer conversations in Gong. Otter covers every kind of meeting with self-serve plans and CRM note sync from Pro, with its Sales Notetaker and Live Assist coaching on Enterprise, on top of a general meeting notetaker.
Otter.ai vs. Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot provides meeting notes and summaries inside Microsoft Teams for organizations on Microsoft 365. Otter works across Zoom, Google Meet and Teams with a single meeting history, and connects that history to Salesforce, HubSpot, Claude and ChatGPT.
What does Otter.ai do?
Otter.ai records and transcribes meetings and conversations, then turns them into summaries, action items and a searchable record. Its Notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls from your calendar, or you can record without a bot from the desktop, Chrome or mobile apps. Otter AI Chat answers questions across your meetings and drafts follow-ups, and role-specific agents handle sales calls, interviews and website demos.
How much does Otter.ai cost?
Basic is free with 300 transcription minutes a month and 30 minutes per conversation. Pro is $8.33 per user per month billed annually or $16.99 billed monthly, with 1,200 minutes a month and 90 minutes per conversation. Business is $19.99 per user per month billed annually or $30 billed monthly, with unlimited meeting minutes, 4-hour conversations and a 7-day free trial. Enterprise is custom pricing through sales. The SDR Agent is sold separately through a demo.
Does Otter.ai work with Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams?
Yes. Otter Notetaker automatically joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings on a connected Google or Microsoft calendar, on every plan including the free one. It joins as a visible guest, so the meeting must allow guest participants. The voice-activated 'Hey Otter' interaction launched on Zoom first.
Can I use Otter.ai with Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Otter runs a remote MCP server at https://mcp.otter.ai/mcp that connects through OAuth to Claude (it is in Claude's connectors directory), ChatGPT (through its app store, connected on the web), Cursor, Perplexity and other MCP clients. It offers get user info, search and fetch tools, so the assistant can find meetings and read full transcripts you have access to. The pricing page lists the MCP server on every plan.
Does Otter.ai have an API?
Yes, for Enterprise workspaces only. The public REST API uses Bearer API keys (up to 2 per user) with a limit of 10 requests per second and covers channels, conversations, transcripts, audio, action items, insights and workspace details, and it can create conversations from a file URL. Enterprise workspace admins can also set up webhooks that push summaries, action items and transcripts to other systems.
Is Otter.ai HIPAA compliant, and does it train on my data?
Otter has a SOC 2 Type 2 report and offers HIPAA compliance on the Enterprise plan once a Business Associate Agreement is signed. Its privacy page says it trains its own models on de-identified user data, without human review of recordings unless you consent, and that its AI service providers do not train on customer data. Enterprise customers can opt out of model training through their account manager.
Otter.ai vs Lindy: what is the difference?
Both can join calls, take notes and draft follow-ups. Otter is built around the meeting itself, with live transcription, speaker identification, a searchable meeting history, role-specific meeting agents and bot-free recording apps. Lindy is a general AI teammate that works across email, calendar, Slack and many other apps, with meetings as one part of a broader inbox and scheduling workflow.

Lindy
Individual professionals and small teams who want an AI assistant that works across their actual email, calendar, and CRM without building explicit automation flows
PaidNotion
Teams already using Notion who want AI agents and writing assistance embedded in their existing docs, databases, and meetings
PaidOtter started as a transcription app and now describes itself as a conversational knowledge engine: every meeting it captures becomes part of a searchable record that its agents act on. The core workflow is simple. You connect a Google or Microsoft calendar and Otter Notetaker joins the Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings you choose as a visible guest participant, transcribes in real time with speaker identification, captures shared slides, and produces a summary with action items when the call ends. If you do not want a bot in the call, the Mac and Windows desktop app, the Chrome extension and the iOS and Android apps record directly. Otter AI Chat sits on top of that record: you can ask questions during or after a meeting, query across many meetings, and have it draft follow-up emails, status updates and reports. A new Work mode, still rolling out, can also act through connected apps, for example creating Jira tickets or drafting Gmail emails after asking for permission. Otter's March 2025 Meeting Agent launch made the notetaker voice-activated, so participants can say 'Hey Otter' to ask a question or create an action item, starting on Zoom. Around the meeting agent sit role-specific products. The Sales Notetaker, which the pricing page lists under Enterprise, adds meeting briefs, objection and competitor detection and follow-up drafts on top of the Salesforce and HubSpot note sync that Pro and Business include for a limited number of users. Live Assist, launched for Enterprise in July 2026 and built with Otter's Agent Builder, shows private tip cards and tracks call objectives while a call is running. The Recruiting Agent prepares interview agendas, summarizes interviews and drafts candidate feedback, syncing notes to Greenhouse through Zapier. The SDR Agent is a separately sold website agent that runs voice or chat product demos with visitors, qualifies them and books meetings. Meeting data also flows out: a remote MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Perplexity search and read your transcripts on every plan including the free one, and Enterprise workspaces get a public REST API and webhooks. The tradeoffs are in the plan structure. The free Basic plan caps you at 300 minutes a month, 30 minutes per conversation, 25 stored conversations and 20 AI Chat queries; Pro still caps minutes and conversation length; and the most agentic features (Live Assist, the Sales Notetaker, the API and webhooks, AI Chat with Salesforce, SSO and HIPAA) are Enterprise-only and sales-led. Otter also trains its own models on de-identified customer data unless an Enterprise customer arranges an opt-out, and no self-hosted option is documented.
Otter.ai announced $320 million in growth financing from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, to be used for enterprise growth, go-to-market, international expansion and product development. TechCrunch reported that Otter is testing pre-meeting briefs built from context in earlier conversations.
Otter introduced Live Assist, a real-time coaching agent built with its Agent Builder and grounded in a team's playbooks and past meetings. It joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls or runs through the desktop app, shows tip cards visible only to the user and checks off call objectives. It launched for Otter Enterprise customers.
Otter repositioned as a conversational knowledge engine and launched AI Chat connectors that make Otter an MCP client for Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, Jira and Salesforce, an expanded MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude, a rebuilt AI Chat that is private by default, and Otter for Desktop on Mac and Windows.
Otter launched a suite of meeting agents: a voice-activated Otter Meeting Agent that answers questions from an organization's meeting history and can schedule follow-ups and draft emails during calls (rolling out on Zoom first), a Sales Agent with live coaching, and an autonomous SDR Agent that runs product demos.
