OpusClip · OpusClip: AI Producer Editing Agent, Auto-edit Recipes, and AI Clipping for Talking-Head Video
OpusClip is an AI video platform that now edits raw talking-head footage into finished social videos, alongside the long-to-short clipping it is known for. Its AI Producer agent takes a plain-language brief, can cut filler and pauses and add captions, motion graphics, B-roll, music, and sound effects, and applies follow-up revisions to the same project, including from Claude or ChatGPT. It suits founders, creators, and marketers who film themselves on camera and do not want to edit.
Best for
Founders, solo creators, coaches, and marketers who regularly film themselves talking to camera and want a finished, captioned short video from a raw take, plus clipping and scheduling for longer recordings in the same tool
Not ideal for
Multi-camera, screen-recording, or long-form edits, editors who want frame-level control on a full multitrack timeline, teams that need self-hosted tools, and buyers who need a published, fixed cost per edited video
Who it's for
Founders, creators, coaches, podcasters, and marketing teams who publish short talking-head videos to social platforms
OpusClip's move from clipping into editing targets the people who film a quick take on their phone and never get around to cutting it. AI Producer is narrow on purpose: one person talking to camera, up to five minutes, one finished MP4. Inside that scope, the brief-plus-revisions loop and reference-style matching cover most of what a short-form editor would do, and being able to run it from Claude or ChatGPT suits people who already work there. Recipes and the existing clipping and scheduling tools make it more useful for a recurring format than for one-off edits. The weak spots are cost visibility, since AI Producer bills credits in slices without a published rate, and scope: interviews, multi-camera shoots, screen recordings, and long-form edits still need Descript, invideo, or a traditional editor.
Who should use it
Founders, coaches, consultants, and creators who post short talking-head videos often and want them captioned, cleaned up, and styled without editing; marketers who want one consistent format through Recipes; and existing OpusClip users who clip long recordings and want to finish the clips in the same tool.
Who should skip it
Editors working on interviews, multi-camera, screen-recorded, or long-form content, people who want full control on a multitrack timeline, organizations that need self-hosted tools, and buyers who need a fixed, published price per edited video.

Free tier limits: The Free plan gives 60 credits per month, adds a watermark, has no editing, and clips stop being exportable after 3 days. Starter and Pro offer a free trial with no credit card required. AI Producer says starting is free, but its editing steps spend credits from your OpusClip account.
Note: Everything runs on one OpusClip credit balance. Processing a video for clipping costs 1 credit per minute of the original video, and automatic motion graphics in Auto-edit cost 6 credits per minute of uploaded video. AI Producer holds a first slice of credits when a project starts and charges the rest in slices as it works, stopping if the account cannot fund the next slice; OpusClip does not publish a per-minute rate for it. When you edit from Claude or ChatGPT, the model that plans the edit runs on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. Unused credits on monthly plans carry over for a limited time (the help center says they expire after 60 days), and annual plans grant the full year's credits up front, valid for 12 months. A Max plan with 1,500 credits per pack is sold through Agent Opus, and its credits can be used in OpusClip.
Modalities
Video, Audio, Text
Weekly founder update
A two-minute phone recording plus a short brief comes back with filler removed, captions, and B-roll, and a saved Recipe or style reference keeps every week's video consistent.
Copying a proven short-form style
Pasting a TikTok or YouTube link as a reference lets AI Producer recreate that video's caption, motion graphics, and transition style on the creator's own footage.
Editing without leaving the chat app
Teams that already work in Claude or ChatGPT can upload a take, open it there through the AI Producer connector or plugin, and request changes in the same conversation.
OpusClip vs. Descript
Descript is a general-purpose editor in which you edit recordings mainly through the transcript, with the Underlord assistant, AI cleanup, multitrack podcast audio, and screen recording. OpusClip is narrower: AI Producer turns a single-speaker take of up to 5 minutes into a finished short from a brief and a style reference, and OpusClip adds clipping, Recipes, and social scheduling around it.
OpusClip vs. Riverside Agents
Riverside Agents work only inside Riverside's own recording studio, editor, and hosting, preparing sessions, editing episodes, clipping, and publishing. OpusClip works on footage you upload or link, with Pro importing from many sources (Riverside among them), and its AI Producer can be driven from Claude or ChatGPT rather than only from its own app.
OpusClip vs. invideo
invideo is a full browser editor with a multitrack timeline, color and audio rooms, agents that cut multicam and design sound, and generation from many models. OpusClip AI Producer does a smaller job: a finished social video from one person talking to camera, with revisions by chat and style matching from a reference, rather than an editor you finish the cut in.
What is OpusClip AI Producer?
AI Producer is OpusClip's video editing agent. You upload a video of one person talking to camera, optionally add a style reference, and describe the edit in your own words. It cuts filler words and pauses and can add captions, motion graphics, B-roll, music, and sound effects, then applies each follow-up request to the same project. The result is one MP4 at up to 1080p and 30 fps.
How is AI Producer different from OpusClip's clipping tool?
The clipping tool takes a long video, such as a podcast or webinar, and finds short moments worth posting. AI Producer edits a single talking-head video of up to 5 minutes into a finished piece. OpusClip describes them as complementary: clip the best moment from a long recording, then have AI Producer polish it.
Can I use OpusClip AI Producer in Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. In Claude (web, desktop, or mobile) you connect AI Producer from the Claude connector directory, and in ChatGPT you install the AI Producer plugin, which runs in Codex and needs a paid ChatGPT plan. You sign in to your OpusClip account once in the browser. The model that plans the edit runs on your Claude or ChatGPT plan, while AI Producer's editing steps spend OpusClip credits. Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor Desktop can also install the plugin, but that path is currently open only to a limited set of accounts.
How much does OpusClip cost?
The Free plan gives 60 credits a month, with a watermark and no editing. Starter costs $15 a month for 150 credits and is billed monthly only. Pro costs $29 a month, or $14.50 a month billed annually, for 300 credits a month per pack. Business pricing is custom. Clipping costs 1 credit per minute of source video, and AI Producer charges credits in slices as it edits, with no published per-minute rate.
What are OpusClip Recipes?
A Recipe is a saved editing setup: the output aspect ratio, which edits run (such as clipping, captions, B-roll, speech cleanup, and hooks), their styles and prompts, and an optional Brand Kit. OpusClip ships built-in Recipes such as Auto-edit talking videos, Clip long video, and Translate & dub, and you can save your own under My custom Recipes to edit each new video the same way.
Does OpusClip have an API or MCP server?
Yes. OpusClip offers a REST API (limited access on Pro, full access on custom Business plans) and a hosted MCP server at mcp.opus.pro that lets agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and ChatGPT clip, caption, reframe, edit, and schedule video; calling its tools needs Pro, Max, or Business access. AI Producer has its own separate MCP endpoint, used by its plugin and connectors.
OpusClip vs Descript: what is the difference?
Descript is a general-purpose editor in which you edit recordings mainly by editing the transcript, with its Underlord assistant, multitrack podcast audio, and screen recording. OpusClip focuses on short social video: clipping long recordings, auto-editing talking videos with Recipes, and AI Producer, which turns a single-speaker take into a finished cut from a brief and can be driven from Claude or ChatGPT.

Descript
Creators, podcasters, and content or marketing teams who want fast, text-based video and audio editing with AI cleanup
Freemium
Riverside
Podcasters, video creators and small marketing teams who already record on Riverside and want prep, editing, clipping and social posting handled by agents while they approve each step
Freemiuminvideo
Creators, agencies, and in-house marketing and film teams who edit in the browser and want AI agents to handle logging, first cuts, multicam, sound design, effects, and missing shots on a timeline they can take over at any frame
FreemiumOpusClip started as a clipping tool that finds the best moments in a long video and turns them into captioned vertical shorts. OpusClip 4.0, announced on November 2, 2026, moves it into editing raw footage, with three pieces that work together. Auto-edit takes a raw talking video or a link and applies the edits you switch on (speech cleanup, captions, a Viral Hook, motion graphics, B-roll) to return a finished video. Recipes save that setup, including aspect ratio, which edits run, their styles, and a Brand Kit, so the next video is edited the same way; OpusClip also ships built-in Recipes such as Auto-edit talking videos, Clip long video, Clean up recording, and Translate & dub. AI Producer is the agentic part. You upload a video of one person talking to camera, optionally add a reference (a style preset, an Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube link, or an uploaded video or images), and describe the edit in your own words. The agent reads the footage and transcript, plans the cut, and applies its editing skills: rough cut, voice cleanup, captions, motion graphics, camera movement, auto layout, auto B-roll, floating overlays, and, in beta, sound effects, background music, and scene restyle. Each follow-up request (bigger captions, no music, cut the intro) updates the same project rather than starting over, and the export is one MP4 at up to 1080p and 30 fps in 9:16, 16:9, or 1:1. The editing conversation can also run in Claude through the AI Producer connector or in ChatGPT through the AI Producer plugin, where the model that plans the edit runs on your Claude or ChatGPT plan; Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor Desktop can install an MIT-licensed plugin with editing skills and an MCP connection. Separately, a hosted OpusClip MCP server and REST API let agents and developers clip, caption, reframe, and schedule video. Everything draws on one OpusClip credit balance. The main tradeoffs are scope and cost visibility. AI Producer is built only for single-speaker footage of up to 5 minutes, with no multi-camera or screen-recording support yet; the coding-agent path is open to a limited set of accounts; and AI Producer charges credits in slices as it works without a published per-minute rate. Compared with Descript or invideo, OpusClip is less a general-purpose editor than a fast path from a phone-shot take to a posted short.
OpusClip 4.0 expanded the product from clipping to editing raw footage. It added Auto-edit for talking videos, Recipes that save an editing setup for reuse, Viral Hook and Motion Graphics, and AI Producer, an editing agent that can be used from ChatGPT or Claude and matches the style of a reference video.
